A solid package that is a must-buy for all FPS enthusiasts!
What can I say that hasn't already been said about Battlefield 1942?The legendary MMOFPS that started it all packaged together with both its expansion packs doesn't only make good financial sense, but gives any war-gamer the one-box-stop to WWII heaven.Playable online or over the LAN (other than the single player option) this game pits you against some of the biggest war-machines ever produced by mankind. And not only does it let you fight against them, but USE them. Every single vehicle in this game is playable. Jump in an artillery gun and blow up an incomming tank, then jump into an AA gun and bring down some enemy planes...but it doesn't stop there! jump in a plane, fly to the enemy base, bomb it to the ground, parachute down, grab one of their tanks and blast your way back out...did I mention the naval combat? including everything from aircraft cariers, to submarines, this game covers EVERY aspect of the legendary war, the likes of which will never be wittnessed...

GREAT GAME!!! w/ its alowed couple a problems.
I play this game all the time i can. Its an incredible WW2 experience that spans so much territory with such incredible arsenals it has quickly became my favorite game. I first played it at my friends house on the original games and the next day i went out and got myself the anthology. Its perormance demands do however tend to be a little high as i have had to seet my graphics to nearly as low as possible to avoid lag and the game still looks incredible. Some of the actual gameplay problems include that though the game is designed for coordinated play whether in single player or multiplayer it doesnt always work like that. For example in single player, bots tend to run over thru fields while tanks drive right at them; another problem with bots is that they ttend to jump into vehicles and start moving with no one else in them. this is even true with multi player as people are to impatient to wait for otheres to get in 2 seater planes and such. Its like a seperate battle with teamates...

Ideal LAN action-based game
Though I am not a gaming fanatic, I occasionally get dragged from friends to internet-gaming places where I play the noteworthy games of that current period (Counterstrike, Medal of Honour, Starcraft etc). Having discovered Battlefield 1942 in the summer, I can truly say that I have spent many nights in internet-gaming places playing this, rather than actually 'going out.'I must stress that Battlefield is an excellent game to play with friends and honestly, you will lose your track of time playing it. However, I find that I can never play alone in the freedom of my house, particularly because the single-player gaming is tedious and lacks real huma challenge. Capturing bases and sustaining them becomes a lot more easier, and thus a lot of the fun is missed.The reason for the 4 star rating is though Battlefield 1942 is excellent, I feel the additions of 'Road to Rome' and especially 'Secret Weapons of WWII' are lacking. 'Road to Rome' offers several extra maps...

Best *MULTIPLAYER* ww2 game I've ever played
This is IT for MULTIPLAYER ww2 FPS gaming. BF1942 is NOT, nor was it ever intended to be, a single player game (nor was bfVietnam). I prefer the ww2 genre to the modern stuff, so perhaps that's why I still like good old bf1942 and bfVietnam over bf2, halo, etc...The graphics are great, there are still several servers to play on, the official sites along w/patches are still there, and the gameplay is just amazing. Accuracy depends on whether you're moving or not and you have to learn how much lead is required for the distance to your target (just like in most other FPS that don't have the stupid auto-locking type of aim). Only new players complain they can't hit anything while getting one-shotted. But that's not fair because it's the same w/every FPS game till you learn the mechanics of that game.What's so fun is both the capture-the-flag(spawn point) gameplay and, most of all, the fact that every vehicle (ship, plane, tank, gun emplacement, you name it) is...

You get the 2002 game of the year battlefield 1942, and it's two great expansions,Battlefield 1942, The Road to Rome, And Battlefield 1942, Secret Weapons of WWII. And you also get Battlefield Vietnam, which is my favorite, where you can drive and fly vehicles,from the Vietnam era, while listening to music from the Vietnam era. Ok, I love WWII fps games, I'm going through that phase I guess. I've played Call of Duty and Medal of Honour and I was surprised and somewhat disappointed in myself for not trying Battlefield 1942 yet-especially considering I love multiplayer. So I decided it was time I got Battlefield and since I always end up buying the expansion packs anyway, I figured I might as well get the Battlefield 1942: WWII Anthology. However when Christmas rolled around I saw this, the Complete Collection, on the shelf for the same price, in fact its even cheaper than the Anthology on Amazon!!! Well, I got it for Christmas and it is one b****in' game pack! You get Battlefield 1942 v1.6, Battlefield 1942: The Road To Rome, Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII and Battlefield Vietnam v1.2 (I think its basically the Redux version) AND Battlefield Vietnam: WWII Mod, Battlecraft Vietnam (a map editor)and Battlecraft 1942.*Take a breath*. This is my favorite First Person Shooter!
My name is Christian Hunter, and I'm a complete gaming physco. I've played every popular first person shooter since Doom and Rise of the Triad (I spent collectively 2 years of my life playing Quake 2). Yes I'm sick, but you can probably trust my opinion on gaming...This one has been my favorite FPS for the past year.There are 2 very important reasons you should buy this game:1. A well done 'combined arms' game
This review is just based upon the demos (single and multiplayer).Battlefield 1942 offers you the ability to run wild on the battlefield. The multiplayer demo offers a taste of each of the types of combat: Infantry, air, armor, sea. Infantry has several basic classes, and the other three categories offer a variety of vehicles to steal...er...use.First off: The game looks and runs fantastic. I have a PIII-800 and it runs well. I know people with better machines, and they report it runs fantastic.The first person shooter aspect runs fine. It isn't groundbreaking when compared to other contemperary FPSs, but it performs well.The 'flight sim' aspect also runs fine. It seems geared more towards close air support, as high altitude winding air battles ain't happening...but I still feel like I'm 'flying' an aircraft. Strafing and bombing can't be described easily in words...dropping a bomb on an unsuspecting enemy ground troop was a priceless first in my gaming experience...

Battlefield 1942 flawed
Battlefield 1942 is an oldie but a goodie especially considering the technology in 2002. However, I am writing this review, not of the game per se, but the Cosmi reseller/redistributor of this game that sells for less than the proper, finished game. This is the old original version without the bug fixes and mods that were put in by EA later to improve game performance and realism. I bought this version in a bargain bin, took it home, realized it was a copy of the old version, and tossed it in the trash. This version lacks weapon, uniform, and effects updates that the later versions corrected. Just a heads up for gamers.

Great Fun Even For 10 Year Old Game!
Well I decided to buy this game cause a few friends told me it was a fun game. At first I didn't want to buy it cause it was made in 2001 and the graphics seems like crap. But after playing it I saw the game play was well worth it and graphics don't matter for a game like this.It only took a few days to get to me, only had the cd case and 2 disks, but thats all I needed. The disk's are in great shape and had no problems playing the game or installing it. I most likely will do more business with the seller in the future and amazon now.

Great
This game is a very fun game. If you've beaten all your MOH and COD games, give this one a try. It's lack of a path to follow make the game free and open, Not like MOH where you are led places by the games story. You'll love the re-playability, every battle is different, and chooseing axis or allies makes it even better. The tanks and cars are awsome. ( the planes take some getting used to.) Battlefield Road to Rome is the iceing on the cake, it adds four new levels and two new armies, ( the French and the Italians. ) and more guns like the sten and some Italian mg, More tanks and better planes are at you're disposal. Overall, two very fun games.

Its Still Got It!
Battlefield 1942 may be an older game, but its got amazing graphics for its time. I like to play games like Star Wars Battlefront(which is the same concept, ust in a Star Wars universe), which are games with "ticket" counters, command posts, and different "kits", including scout, assault, anti-tank, engineer, and medic. You can replay important battles in history, including Iwo Jima, Battle at the Bulge, etc. It does have a campaign mode, which I guess you could call its storyline, but if you want a good storyline, try Halo. My G5 can run it smoothly on medium setting, but it gets jumpy if you put it on high. Some of the battles are a little exclusive to one side(Axis or Allies), like Battle of Midway is almost impossible to beat as the Allies. With the addition of the Road to Rome expansion, you get more maps, more weapons, and more armies.Gameplay: 5 starsMaps: 4 starsGraphics: 5 starsOverall: An awesome game.

Great Multiplayer Action
Even though it's showing its age, Battlefield 1942 is still a great multiplayer experience. I hust bought a new iMac G5 and my PC friends still wanted to game with me. After I installed the Desert Combat 0.7 modification we were off and playing online again. The only real issue is that even with a 2.0 Ghz G5 and 1.5 GB of RAM, it struggles against 49 bots on an enemy team. Just play online against humans or keep the bot count a bit lower. I like the ability to play with my Windows using friends.

to make bf2 run smoothly with windows vista. Here are the steps:1. Make a shortcut of BF2 and all the booster packs if you got any.2.Then right-click on the shortcut and click properties.3. Click the compatibility tab and check the box "run as administrator"4. Check the box to run it in compatibility mode and click apply. Then click ok.5. do this for each shortcut if you have booster packs.Remember to only start BF2 from thos shortcuts or the changes you made wont be applied! ENJOY! I did those steps to make bf2 work for me and it was really easy.

Quality Game, but Unbalanced and Air Power Heavy
I have been playing the Battlefield franchise since the first demo, and have owned Battlefield 2 since its launch circa 2 years ago. Although the series has had its ups and down, (with the pinnacle being the BF1942 modification Desert Combat by Frank Delise and crew), with the recent crop of Battlefield games being mindless cash ins, (ever sine EA bought out DICE games and Trauma Studios). Nevertheless, Battlefield 2 is the best retail version you can currently buy. With that being said, there are several issues with BF2 that have only gotten worse with each subsequent EA/DICE patch which has led to a drastic inbalance in the game, with air power completely dominating in every level, (although there are infantry only levels). When the game first launched, the balance was fairly adequate, and ground troops using mobile AA or the defenses on a carrier could take out a pilot who was repeatedly bombing a spawn point, but that has changed. The only way to actually take out another...

One line recommendation: skip the pack, just buy the original Battlefield 2 game by itself - you'll save yourself hassle, and enjoy the fun at a lower price.First the good news: The game itself has very nice graphics, and is a blast to play single player AND where it shines: multi player.Now for the bad news: The additional maps aren't all that much to crow about, and playing online, you will mostly be playing maps designed for the original Battlefield 2 game itself, not the add-on maps.More bad news: INSTALL/REGISTER PROCESS. The complete collection comes with 4 separate setups. Battlefield 2, Special Forces, Armored Fury, and Euro Force. The setup file in the main folder only does a partial installation. Apparently you are supposed to somehow divine that you need to run the other setups from the cryptically named "AF" and "EF" directories on the disc. And along the way, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you pick an EA.COM login name which exactly matches...
